What is Gentocin Durafilm?

Gentocin Durafilm is an ophthalmic solution meant for the treatment of external eye infections and inflammation in dogs. It can also be used for the management of some cases of pigmentary keratitis (discoloration of the surface of the eye) and pannus (inflammation of the cornea causing opacification). Gentocin Durafilm is antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory. It is available as a 5 ml dropper bottle and requires a prescription from your veterinarian. Note: the manufacturer is experiencing long term production issues, product may not be available until late Q1 2021

For:

Dogs

Benefits:

  • Treats eye infections
  • Antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory
  • Easy-to-apply dropper bottle

How does Gentocin Durafilm work?

Gentocin Durafilm contains gentamicin sulfate, which is a highly effective topical treatment in primary and secondary bacterial infections of the eye and surrounding tissues. It works by inhibiting the growth of gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria. Gentocin Durafilm also contains betamethasone acetate, which provides anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, and anti-rheumatic effects. It helps control excessive tissue reaction to infections, allergens, and trauma.

Cautions:

Gentocin Durafilm is for use in dogs only. Avoid use in dogs with a hypersensitivity to gentamicin sulfate and betamethasone acetate. Extended use of topical corticosteroids may cause increased intraocular pressure in susceptible patients. Avoid use in dogs that are pregnant, lactating, or breeding. When used for chronic conditions, withdrawal of treatment should be done by gradually decreasing the frequency of application.

Brand Name:

Gentocin Durafilm (Merck)

Generic Name:
